Week 2 Participation
Write:
The objective of
this assignment is to help fulfill the course learning objective: analyze the
relevance of specific disciplines (such as art, literature, science,
technology, social sciences, history, political science and philosophy).
Present an
argument that could be delivered to a school board or college explaining why
the creation of art, music, dance, sporting activity and literature should or
should not be made a fundamental part of every school’s pre-K to 12th
grade curriculum.
Write a one
sentence thesis statement that argues your point.
Brainstorm
reasons why or why not you think every school should or should not include
this discipline into its curriculum.
I will not be
collecting this Participation Write but I will be asking you to share your
one sentence argument with the class.
Your writing task
for week 2 will be to write a summary of this argument (300 words) and to
find five sources that support your argument.
You will also need to write about how or why each source supports your
thesis.

Directions for
Writing Task Week 2
1. Instructions: This
week in class, you presented an argument that you could deliver to a school
board or college that explains why the creation of art, music, dance, a sporting
activity and/or literature should or should not be made a fundamental part of
every school's pre-K to 12th grade curriculum.
2. 1) Outside of class, search for five credible Internet
sources that support your argument. For your written assignment, you will
list each source and write 3-5 sentences about each source.
How do you know if you are using a credible source? Try the C.R.A.P. Test below? * Currency -
o How recent is the information?
o How recently has the website been updated?
o Is it current enough for your topic?
* Reliability -
o What kind of information is included in the resource?
o Is content of the resource primarily opinion? Is is balanced?
o Does the creator provide references or sources for data or quotations?
* Authority -
o Who is the creator or author?
o What are the credentials?
o Who is the published or sponsor?
o Are they reputable?
o What is the publisher’s interest (if any) in this information?
o Are there advertisements on the website?
* Purpose/Point of View -
o Is this fact or opinion?
o Is it biased?
o Is the creator/author trying to sell you something?
3. 2) Then write a 300 (minimum) word summary of your
argument.
